Maximizing your In transition round table group experience.
The In transition round table is unique each time it meets. Different people, different perspectives. At each meeting there is over 500 years of experience and expertise of the participants for you to tap into.

This group is for qualified professionals in the field or individuals with degrees in the field: The In-Transition Support Group accepts participants who are in Advertising, Marketing, PR, Direct Response and other Communications related professionals. That are looking in Phoenix for a new position, laid off or left their current position or a professional in the field contemplating a future job transition or career direction and is looking for advice and support. This group has been meeting since 1996. Over 1000 advertising and marketing professionals have participated, using the support group while they are in a job search, have located positions and been able to stay and thrive in Phoenix.

There are some basics. This meeting in confidential and we all must protect our and others confidentiality. The information you gain from this group is not always public knowledge. You may contact each other for job leads specifically related to your search. Any other use of the email or phone list is forbidden by participants. If we discover a breach, your name will be dropped from the participant’s list. Many come to the group already employed and do not want their employer to know they are contemplating a change. At no time are you to put any other members’ job in peril by going after or discussing that position that many become vacant until after it is public knowledge.

Come to the meeting prepared: Bring 17 copies of your resume. A list of any questions you may have for the group. Think about and be able to tell us: What is your dream job and what are you looking for in your next position? Since it is a round table, you will have approx. 5 min. focused on your issues and questions. Much is also learned by listening to others and then can apply to you.

Your comfort in the spotlight. Every month’s group is different, but straight frank talk from all is expected and given. This group may not be comfortable or a fit all participants. Some are not ready to hear what they are being told and return at a later date once they have come to terms with the advice. Others take the advice and create immediate measurable actions that improve or create the path towards their goals.

Follow up questions and information requests: Ask as many questions during the support group meeting. For all follow up questions or advice you are asking for that happens outside the support meeting during the month, I am happy to help, give advice and support, but be aware I charge for all follow up requested at PeerMentor rates.

How do I stay on the email list, if I am not coming to the meeting? To stay on the email list you must RSVP that you are not attending but wish to stay on the list. Those who are not regularly attending meetings but wish to get the emails can do so for a monthly or “annual supporter” fee. If you do not respond your name is dropped from the email and the participants list for the next month.

Why is participation limited to 15? We have had much larger groups in the past and they seem to not be as productive, since there are just to many people to focus on in the limited time. The conference room only fits that number comfortably. The goal is for both the participants and the facilitators to have a quality interaction and at 15 participants that seems to be a good number.

Why is there a charge to attend the roundtable meeting? Karen Kallet gives back to the community by hosting and running this support roundtable group and gets no funding from any organization, club or company. The active participants and supporter fees help fund some of the groups’ basic costs that are incurred to run the group each month. The fee per round table is payable at the meeting. If you do not show up at the meeting, you will be billed for the meeting. I ask that you send your payment for no show or supporter be mailed to Kallet Communications, Inc., PO Box 26756 Phoenix, AZ 85068.

What expectations should I have in attending the In transition support meeting? The group is a networking opportunity session and a gut check and feedback as to how ready, prepared and focused you are for a job search. You will get feedback if your resume is a hit or a rewrite. You will get feedback if your goals and desires are realistic or need refining. You may pick up some leads or contacts from other participants. It is not a meeting where employers attend, or have jobs waiting for you. As in any job search, the search is up to you and the effort you put in will get the results.

In-Transition, PeerMentor and Kallet Communications, Inc. is not an outplacement service, nor an employment agency, nor a headhunter and does not act in those capacities.
